Frequently Asked Questions

  • We understand that it’s not always possible to attend your commitments. If you are unwell or injured, please contact us (info@starrstudio.co.uk).

Our general policy is that if you cancel 12 hours prior to your class, you will be refunded full credits for that class. If you cancel within 12 hours, this counts as a late cancellation. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged and you will not be refunded.

  • We are a 2 minute walk from London Fields overground station, or a 20 minute walk from Bethnal Green station. The studio is next to the Smokehaus building on Bayford street. You can view a map on our Contact page.

    Address: Unit 12, 2-16 Bayford street, E8 3SE.

  • We encourage our members to bring a yoga mat for hygiene purposes, however we have got mats in the studio should you wish to rent one for £2.

We would recommend wearing light and breathable clothing. We also recommend wearing grippy pilates socks to move safely on the mat, however you are welcome to come barefoot. If you feel it necessary, bring a small towel.

  • Pilates

No, you do not need any prior experience. However, we recommend you book onto beginner sessions if you haven't engaged in Pilates before. This is to ensure you have a solid foundation and understanding of Pilates before signing up to further classes, and ensures you can perform the exercises safely.

    Yoga

No, you do not need any prior experience. However, we recommend you build up foundational strength before joining inversion classes.

  • Our classes can be modified to accommodate various fitness levels, injuries, and medical conditions.

  • It's really up to personal preference, however many of our clients benefit from attending 2-3 classes per week. Even one class a week can provide noticeable benefits over time.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions on which class to book.

  • We will soon be offering private sessions where you can get comprehensive guidance and feedback on form, posture, and working towards your personal goals.

We will offer postural assessments as well as 1-2-1's which are helpful if you are wanting to track progress in things like strength and range of motion.

  • Yes, there are showering and changing facilities in the building on the first floor, just ask the team and we can direct you.

 Postnatal / Parent & baby

  • We are so excited that you're considering us for your return to Yoga/Pilates, or starting for the first time!

We would be grateful if you could email the studio before you book a class so that we can discuss any specific needs or conditions you have post-birth. We will offer a 10-minute induction to ensure you are ready to return to exercise before booking you into a suitable class, such as filling out a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) and a discussion of any conditions we should be aware of. We also require sign-off from your GP (e.g. at your 6 week check-in).

We recommend you return to classes from 8 weeks post-birth, and attend postnatal classes specifically. We will work towards re-building core strength and stability so that you can rejoin regular group classes. This usually takes 8 weeks, but largely depends on your individual circumstances. Email us or speak to an instructor if you're unsure.

Please be aware that if you attend a regular group class and have recently given birth, we will not be able to give you the care and attention required, and may have to defer you from class. If this happens, we will refund your class credits.

  • We understand it can be nerve-wracking to return to exercise post-birth. We will do our best to make sure you feel safe to participate, providing modifications where necessary. Please remember that you can sit out of any exercise—we are an inclusive studio, and want you to feel your best.

If you have specific concerns that you'd like to discuss privately, we are happy to arrange a time before class to discuss these or a phone call to settle any concerns.

  • We want you and your baby to feel safe and looked after on your visit to Starr studio. To enable this, we have a few class policies to be aware of.

You must have completed your 6 week check-in with a GP or health professional to clear you to return to exercise.

If you have any post-birth complications, we may need to defer you from exercise, or even refer you to a specialist. If this happens and you cannot attend class, we will refund your credits.

So that everyone is safe to participate, we do not allow babies >8 months old in the studio. This is because once babies are crawling, it becomes unsafe for us to work around. However, you are welcome to join for the 30 minute social aspect post-class to catch up with friends.

Please note, there is no childcare available at our studio.

  • We are thrilled to welcome you and your little one!

You can expect 1 hour of postnatal-safe exercise with our highly qualified instructors, followed by 30 minutes to chill in the studio and meet other mums. Mum & Baby classes have a smaller capacity than our regular group sessions to ensure everyone gets the care and attention they need. We can provide recommendations for nearby cafés and space to continue the fun after class.

Please note, there is no childcare available at our studio.

  • Yes, we are street-level with lifts to the toilets, changing rooms and showers on the first floor. In the studio, there is space to fold and stack buggies next to reception or in the storage area.

If you have any issues, please contact us and we will help.
